Meet Jack Matthews, Chairman of Norwood Old Scholars

Wednesday, 10th December @ 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Mosaic Culture Hub invites you to meet Jack Matthews, Chairman of Norwood Old Scholars.

Join us for a light lunch before a presentation by Jack Matthews about the history of Norwood’s Jewish orphanage, with memories of his experience as a Norwood Boy, illustrated with drawings and photos of how the organisation evolved over the years, and interesting anecdotes.

Jack was born in Liverpool in 1938. Just after the war in 1948 he was sent to the Jewish orphanage in west Norwood south London and was there for five years, leaving in 1953.

He was then fostered by Mr and Mrs Fox and lived with them and their two children Jeffrey and Elaine until he began training as an apprentice chef at J. Lyons at the age of 15.

Jack went on to develop a successful career, meeting his wife in 1960, with whom he had two daughters and two grandsons. He retired as Director of Catering at Tesco’s Head Office and then moved into the world of film and TV.

Please book via the Mosaic website by Wednesday 3rd December for catering purposes. There is a £7 charge which will increase to £10 from 4th December
